ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As potentially life-threatening fungal infections spread nationwide, Gov. Kathy Hochul is underscoring New York's existing prevention efforts. The CDC this week issued a report warning about Candida auris, which can cause deadly, drug-resistant infections in hospitalized patients. According to the governor's office, the New York State Department of Health has been working with health care providers since 2016 to track the multidrug-resistant yeast infections in hospitals and long-term care facilities. NEW YORK (WPIX) — A cow grabbed life by the horns by breaking free at a slaughterhouse and running loose through the streets of Brooklyn on Tuesday. Now, it's life will be spared. The 4-month-old calf was being delivered from a truck to the Saba Live Poultry slaughterhouse in Canarsie when she escaped and started running around in the streets, according to Mike Stura, the founder of Skylands Animal Sanctuary in Wantage, New Jersey.Video of the jailbreak showed the calf evading people in the streets as they tried to round her up. The 17-year-old student who police say shot two East High School administrators Wednesday was on probation for a prior weapons charge, The Denver Post confirmed.Prosecutors charged Austin Lyle with possessing a dangerous weapon and a large-capacity magazine in late 2021 after he was arrested by Aurora police, The Post found.Lyle was accepted into a diversion program — which allows charges to be dismissed if a defendant meets certain conditions, but that agreement was later revoked.In November, Lyle was sentenced to 12 months probation on the large-magazine possession charge. Prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge Thursday against an Aurora dentist accused of killing his wife by poisoning her.Arapahoe County District Attorney prosecutors filed the charge against James Craig, 45, who was arrested Sunday. His wife, Angela Craig, 43, died on Saturday. A tornado ripped through an industrial area of Montebello on Wednesday, carving a path of destruction that included damage to several buildings and cars, the National Weather Service confirmed.The twister touched down at 11:14 a.m. and was on the ground for two to three minutes, NWS said. Aerial footage from Sky5 showed roofs damaged and debris scattered across the area of South Vail Street and Washington Boulevard.The National Weather Service immediately dispatched a team to Montebello, a city eight miles east of downtown Los Angeles, to assess the damage. Officials later determined the tornado was an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale with peak winds of 110 miles per hour.
