DENVER (KDVR) -- It was just moments after stepping off the plane at Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, that Rich Sokol was hit with the gravity of the situation. Lining the walls of the terminal walkway were hundreds of posters, representing the 240 hostages reportedly taken by Hamas militants."It's just so heartbreaking," Sokol said. "It's hard to grasp."Sokol has family in Israel, and quickly made the decision to travel there to help after the conflict began. He said it didn't take long to realize the new "norm" in Jerusalem.“The very first night I was there we were having our Shabbat dinner, and all of a sudden, we heard a boom, and I jumped, and my relatives just went on eating their soup like nothing had happened. DENVER (KDVR) -- The Aurora Police Department said Saturday that it was investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital Saturday evening.It happened in the 1000 block of Revere Street, just east of the Lowry and East Colfax neighborhoods in Denver. Rescue crews took a boy to the hospital after, police said, he was accidentally shot inside his own home in Pembroke Pines.According to Pembroke Pines Police, the shooting occurred at the victim’s home in the area of Northwest 134th Avenue and Ninth Street, at around 1:40 a.m. Saturday. Investigators said the victim’s mother had fallen asleep on her living room couch and was startled awake by a noise in the kitchen.Fearing there was an intruder inside the residence, detectives said, the boy’s mother removed a firearm that she had concealed in her purse and walked toward the kitchen.At that time, police said, the boy walked out of the kitchen, startling his mother, who accidentally discharged the gun, striking her son in the leg.Cameras captured the young patient sitting up on the stretcher when he was wheeled into a local hospital. There was a massive response by firefighters in Florida City when a building erupted in flames.More than 20 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue trucks rushed to the scene of the blaze along the 300 block of Southeast First Avenue, off of U.S. 1, at around 9:30 a.m., Saturday.A large plume of smoke rose from the abandoned building as it burned. Tyngsboro police are sounding the alarm about a pair of jewelry thieves who have been robbing victims in the area.The man and woman are known to travel in a team and call victims, often the elderly, over to their car to speak with them “in a friendly and engaging manner” before offering and placing fake jewelry on the victims and then trying to steal the victim’s real jewelry before driving away, Tyngsboro police warn.The crime occurred Monday and similar incidents have been reported in nearby communities.“Do not approach them or their vehicle and do not engage in conversation with them, even if they seem friendly.
