(CNN) — An off-duty pilot riding as a passenger in the cockpit of an Alaska Airlines flight tried to seize control of a plane headed from Seattle to San Francisco on Sunday, the airline and a source familiar with the matter said.A pilot assigned to the flight told air traffic controllers a person riding in the cockpit of flight 2059 attempted to turn off the aircraft’s engines in flight. Pilots will occasionally ride a cockpit “jump seat” when traveling in an official capacity or commuting to another airport.Joseph Emerson, 44, has been arrested by the Port of Portland Police Department and charged with 83 felony counts of attempted murder, 83 counts of reckless endangerment and one count of endangering an aircraft, online booking records show.Emerson is an off-duty pilot who is accused of trying to seize control of the Alaska Airlines flight, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. WALNUT CREEK — A prearranged sale at a shopping center Saturday ended with an armed robbery, police said.The victim went to the Walden Shopping Center in the 2900 block of North Main Street to sell property to a person, according to a statement from Lt. (KRON) – A suspect accused of assaulting his mother while carrying a firearm has been apprehended by the Vallejo Police Department.Officers responded to a report of assault at a residence on the 400 block of Greenwood Street. The report was of a man physically assaulting his mother while possessing a firearm, police said. (AP) — A man who was living in a tent in the woods in New Hampshire was convicted of murder Monday in the fatal shooting of a retired couple who had gone out for a walk.After a day and a half of deliberation, a jury found Logan Clegg, 27, guilty of second-degree murder in the deaths of Stephen and Djeswende Reid in April 2022. The couple were killed while walking on a trail near their apartment in the city of Concord.The bodies of the couple, found several days later, had been dragged into the woods and covered with leaves, sticks and debris, police said. Clegg, who gave a different name when he was questioned by police, later burned his tent, erased information from his computer and bought a bus ticket out of Concord, prosecutors said.
