Denver brewery spoofs the demise of New Belgium’s Fat Tire with its own Re-Tired Amber Ale You won’t see many amber ales on menus at craft beer bars these days, and very few people are clamoring for the latest amber when they head to the liquor store. But the lighter, malty style has been the backbone of the craft-beer industry – especially in Colorado – since the late ‘80s and early ‘90s when ambers were at the height of their popularity. So it was a somewhat undignified ending for one of the most famous ambers when Fort Collins-founded New Belgium Brewing revealed in January that its flagshipo Fat Tire would not longer look or taste the way it had since hitting the market in 1991 and inspiring a million knock-offs.Related: 8 Colorado-made amber ales to feed your Fat Tire cravingsAs a tribute to the Fat Tire, Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project in Denver released its own hoppy amber ale on Wednesday, pointedly called Re-Tired and featuring a similar bicycle on the label, along with the same colors and design elements of the New Belgium beer.More than 30 years after New Bel...

Opinion: Universal preschool is boosting our district’s enrollment and helping Colorado students In the Colorado Springs School District 11, we are committed to providing our students with the best education, from preschool to post-graduation. As superintendent, I am responsible for the education system and for ensuring that all our kids are loved, challenged, and prepared. In the first year of Colorado’s Universal Preschool Program, nearly 43,000 families have applied for state-funded preschool, about 40,000 have been matched, and more than 35,000 kids have accepted their match or enrolled to access 15 free hours of preschool. This includes almost 3,800 low-income families that will receive 30 hours of preschool. It’s important to remember that Colorado voters only originally approved ten hours, and Gov. Jared Polis and lawmakers were able to work together to increase that to 15 hours. In District 11, our intentional preparations last school year to expand our preschool program by 20% across our district have enabled us to partner successfully with the Colorado Department of Early...

Vintage Theatre actors enthrall us in the Kit Kat Klub | Review Vintage Theatre’s sharp production of “Cabaret” begins suitably interactive.Abby McInerney brings her big, bold, beautiful voice to Sally Bowles in “Cabaret.” RDG Photography, provided by Vintage TheatreA handful of dancers at the fictional Kit Kat Klub saunter around the actual audience. A few patrons are seated at cocktail tables; most have taken traditional seats. A dancer eyes someone from the stage and waves and winks as if she recognizes an old friend. Another enlists the help of an unsuspecting theatergoer seated in a front row in stretching her legs. The “girls” and “boys,” as the Emcee calls them (though the actors’ personal pronouns are more varied), roam, flirt, chat with audience members and banter with each other. This soft intro into the iconic musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb with a book by John Masteroff elicits the intended response. The theater is abuzz. It is noisy with amused anticipation, much the way a nightclub might have been on any given night in Weimer er...
