Montgomery County hosts annual youth day on July 11

FONDA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On July 11, head to Fonda for non-stop fun and excitement at the Montgomery County Youth Day! The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds next to the Montgomery County Annex Building. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Games and activities will be held throughout the day. There will be an ultimate challenge obstacle course, a karaoke competition, mini-golf, a scavenger hunt, and more! There will also be a free lunch provided for kids between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.Free parking is available at the Fonda Fairgrounds. All youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone and have a permission slip form signed by a parent or guardian. Forms and wristbands will be available at the Registration table.There is a rain date set for Wednesday, July 12. Englewood police on Monday neutralized a pipe bomb that was found at a home associated with two men who were already facing criminal charges for possessing explosives, according to a news release.A resident of the home on the 4900 block of South Delaware Street discovered the pipe bomb at about 1:40 p.m. Monday, outside the home near an air conditioning unit. That resident called police, who responded, evacuated the immediate area and then neutralized the bomb, which they said was a “viable explosive device.”The purpose of the explosive was not clear Tuesday, but Englewood Sgt. Ed Disner said in an email that the device had not been ignited, “so we don’t believe it was intended to do any harm.”“We do not believe there is a current danger to the community,” Disner said.The pipe bomb was discovered days after two men admitted to making explosives at the home, according to police. A man suspected of holding his girlfriend against her will and then throwing her from a moving car in the unincorporated area of Bloomington was arrested overnight, officials said Tuesday. The initial incident took place around 7 p.m. Saturday when the suspect, identified as 21-year-old William Escobar, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and forced her to remain in his vehicle against her will, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Eventually, Escobar slowed the vehicle near the intersection of Slover Avenue and Linden Avenue and pushed the victim out while still in motion, the Sheriff's Department stated.Good Samaritans who witnessed the incident helped the victim and notified authorities. Police are searching for a home invasion suspect who shot a homeowner's dog during a burglary in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles early Tuesday morning.The break-in happened around 1:55 a.m. at a home on the 7000 block of Alvern Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.Police say a man gained entry into the home and shot the homeowner's dog in the head with a handgun. Authorities in Gardena are asking the public for help in locating a missing man with special needs. According to a statement from the Gardena Police Department, 31-year-old Martel Ray Burnett went missing from the 14500 block of Hass Avenue in Gardena on Monday. “Burnett has the mental capacity of a six-year-old and is autistic,” GPD said. Burnett is said to have left his residence without a cellphone or money, and that he does not know anyone in the area. Authorities say he is known to ride local bus lines and is attracted to shopping centers.
