Picnics are one of life’s many simple pleasures, but don’t confuse simple with boring. A picnic can be its own great adventure, especially when you have the opportunity to have one at a naturally, culturally and historically rich destination like Angel Island.Just inside the Golden Gate, amid sparkling waters and facing the California coastline, sits the San Francisco Bay’s largest natural island. It’s an everyman’s island getaway, an ideal spot for a Bay Area mini-vacation that won’t set you back an entire paycheck or even more than a day. Angel-goers can stroll the island’s ring road, take a hike through the wilderness or just sit and relax on one of the island’s many beaches or picnic areas, all the while enjoying breathtaking 360-degree views of the Bay.While the island has hosted visitors for relaxing day trips and sightseeing excursions since it gained official California State Park status in 1963, there were many who came long b...Silicon Valley Bank seized as depositors pull cash

WASHINGTON (AP) — Standard time comes to an end in most parts of the United States this weekend. You’ll lose an hour of sleep for one night but gain more daylight in the evening in the months ahead. The transition to daylight saving time is official at 2 a.m. local time Sunday across much of the country. Then on March 20, winter sunsets and spring is sprung.Until daylight saving time ends in the wee hours of Nov. 5, the sun will rise later in the morning than than it has during standard time but it will stay light for longer until the evening. It’s a good idea to set clocks an hour ahead before bed Saturday night. No time change is observed in Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas.A poll conducted in October 2021 found that most people in the United States want to avoid switching between daylight saving and standard time, though there is no consensus behind which should be used all year. If Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa strengthens his neck muscles, keeps his chin close to his chest when he falls, and learns to land on his shoulder and roll instead of landing on his back, it’ll go a long way toward avoiding concussions. That’s not me talking, that’s what Ailton Barbosa thinks. Barbosa is a third-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and instructor at American Top Team/Coconut Creek, one of the nation’s best MMA teams. The Dolphins are having Tagovailoa study jiu-jitsu in the offseason. They hope it’ll teach him how to fall without that whiplash effect of his head hitting the ground.“I think it’s going to be helpful for him,” Barbosa said.Jiu-Jitsu turned out to be the winning idea for the Dolphins.Coach Mike McDaniel said the team had lots of ideas for teaching Tagovailoa how to fall and avoid concussions.“We were willing to go to any length,” McDaniel said at last week’s NFL scouting combine. ...Are you a points and miles hoarder? Here’s how to get over it

Most personal finance advice boils down to this: Save as much as you can, and spend as little as you can. That’s the simplest way to accumulate wealth, build investment income and achieve financial independence (even if it’s not so simple in practice).Yet when it comes to travel rewards — those points and miles earned through airline, hotel and credit card programs — this conventional wisdom is turned on its head. Saving a million miles might sound impressive, but it’s generally a poor financial decision.“I hear all the time from business travelers who ‘saved their miles for retirement,’ and are devastated to learn that the purchasing power of their miles isn’t what it would have been five, ten, fifteen years ago,” Tiffany Funk, co-founder and president of travel rewards booking search tool Point.me, said in an email.“Programs have successfully made loyalty currencies feel so valuable that people are often reluctant to use them because they are afraid they are giving up too much valu...Latest news
