Can Texas become a top 'film-friendly' state?

AUSTIN (KXAN) — This legislative session, lawmakers filed more than a dozen bills aiming to make the state more film-friendly. The Texas Media and Production Alliance (TXMPA) said this is the most bills of the sort it has seen in decades. The bills incentivize film production in a few ways. Some focus on infrastructure investment – such as incentivizing building structures, like sound stages and production studios. Other bills, such as HB 4419 filed by Texas Rep. Craig Goldman, R-Fort Worth, aim to put Texas at the forefront of virtual production, a cutting-edge filmmaking technique – used in shows like ‘The Mandalorian.’ Some bills would also make it more financially sustainable for filmmakers to stay in the state long-term, according to Mindy Raymond, the communications director for TXMPA. “We've had a historic session, the likes we've never seen before since the inception of our incentive program [in 2006],” Raymond said. “I think with the 19 bills that were brought for...

Police ID man, 21, who died in St. Paul motorcycle crash

Police released the name on Tuesday of a 21-year-old man who died in a St. Paul motorcycle crash.Sail D. Moo, of St. Paul, was in a single-vehicle crash just before 9 p.m. Sunday near White Bear and Bush avenues.Police continue to investigate the crash and said Tuesday that “investigators believe driver inexperience played a role.”Sail Moo, whose friends called him Taywaywa, “was the core of his family after his father had passed, leaving him little to no choice but to step up and take full responsibility for his family,” according to a GoFundMe established for his funeral. “At a very young age he provided and took care of his family wants and needs. Habanero Tacos to open soon on Snelling Ave. in St. Paul

Habanero Tacos Grill, which started as a food truck, but now operates a bricks-and-mortar restaurant in Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood, is opening a second eatery in St. Paul.The Mexican taqueria will occupy the former Jimmy John’s space at 80 N. NYS pushes 10 bills to help sexual & domestic abuse survivors

ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- State lawmakers will be passing 10 bills on Tuesday, that are aimed at helping survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Queens man accused of sexual abuse on Wilton bus "Because this package of bills is so critically important, to move our state laws ahead with protecting victims of domestic violence," said Senator Shelley Mayer, who is sponsoring legislation that will require extreme risk protection orders be reported and maintained in a statewide computerized registry. "When you move from Westchester to Western New York, the police department enters someone’s name in that registry, they find out whether a temporary or permanent ERPO had been issued," she said. Albany Police: Suspect arrested after shots fired near Sheridan Avenue

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was taken into custody on Monday morning following shots being fired in the area of Sheridan Avenue. An officer attempted to stop an individual on Robin Street as part of the investigation. Police say the male, later identified as Wilkerson, then fled on foot. During the pursuit, Wilkerson threw a loaded .40 caliber handgun under a parked car.Wilkerson was arraigned and remanded to the Albany County Jail. Police say this is the second time Wilkerson was arrested for illegally possessing a loaded handgun. Wilkerson was arrested during a traffic stop on December 16, 2021, after he was found to have a concealed loaded 9mm handgun.

Years later, the diner struggled with staffing and operational issues and eventually became unable to continue service. The location was a thriving piece of the Wolf Road business community for several years. Carl Phillips won the award and $15,000 cash prize for the collection "Then the War: And Selected Poems, 2007-2020." FLORISSANT, Mo. - A new report released Tuesday by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, like another published last month, deems Jana Elementary School as “safe” amid prolonged concerns over radioactive waste.The USACE St. Louis District released the second of three anticipated reports on sampling and testing for radioactive waste at the north county school.
