Annual campaign to restock food pantries begins

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Food pantries typically see an uptick in donations during the holiday season. And while they are grateful for the community's generosity, they also want to highlight that food insecurity impacts people year round.Thursday, Schenectady Shares launched its annual campaign to restock food banks. Twenty food pantries located throughout Schenectady County are participating. They are asking for nonperishable food and personal hygiene products. Advocates said every donation makes a difference."It's not just about filling a stomach so you don't go to bed hungry," Jackie Clute, volunteer executive director of Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, said. Suspect arrested after woman killed in hit-and-run near LAX

A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run that left a woman dead near Los Angeles International Airport.The suspect was identified as Eduardo Alejandro Leiva, 48, by the Los Angeles Police Department.Early Thursday morning around 12:05 a.m., a woman was walking outside of a marked crosswalk on Sepulveda Boulevard, just south of Century Boulevard.That’s when a gray Chevy SUV traveling southbound on Sepulveda Boulevard struck the woman, police said.The driver sped away from the scene and did not pull over to help the injured victim, said LAPD.Police investigate a fatal hit-and-run crash in the Westchester neighborhood on Jan. 4, 2024. Fire quickly extinguished at San Bruno home

(KRON) -- Crews responded to a fire that broke out Thursday at a house, the San Bruno Fire Department said on Facebook. The fire, which happened at a ranch-style home, was knocked down in 10 minutes, officials said.The fire happened on the 400 block of Poplar Avenue. No injuries were reported. Officials did not say whether or not anyone was home at the time of the fire. Hercules police investigating suspicious death after man's body found near sidewalk

(KRON) -- The Hercules Police Department is investigating a suspicious death after a man's body was found near a sidewalk on Thursday, HPD said. The man's body was found on a dirt road next to the sidewalk on the 600 block of Alfred Nobel Drive at about 5:45 a.m. He had no detectable pulse. The victim is believed to be in his 60s. There are no obvious signs of trauma, according to police. Masked suspects in Hercules follow woman home from bank and rob her An autopsy and coroner's report will be conducted.
